South Kent Koi Club (BKKS) is actively looking to encourage some new faces into the membership. Meeting at either Sellinge or Mongham Village Hall in Kent on the third Sunday of the month, meetings comprise visits to other sections or dealers, welcoming speakers on various koi related subjects and general social events. A club koi auction is held every year and this year it falls on the 4th June at Mongeham Village Hall in Kent. Koi Oriental has a new author contributing to its koi articles page. Deron Simons has many years experience in the koi industry and is co owner of the Koi Waterlife Centre. Deron will be sharing his knowledge on many aspects of the hobby.

George Rooney RIP

George Rooney, koikeeper and koi journalist passed away on the morning of the 27th October, succumbing to the cancer that he had been suffering from for sometime.

George's pond reviews and show reports have provided a substantial part in the issues of Koi magazine for many years. He'll be sadly missed.

New legislation for veterinary prescribed medicines.

New legislation comes into effect at the end of October 2005 which ensures that the UK complies with the latest European Union medicines legislation for animals. The new legislation will address the illegal sales of veterinary medicines particularly through the internet and will be used to close down illegal distributon channels. One section of the new legislation will include all of the antibiotics used for treating bacterial infections and worming formulations currently used in ornamental fish to treat internal and external parasites, in particular flukes. Lynn and Terry Wells won the South East Section's Open Show Grand Champion award with an excellent Size 6 Sanke. Winners of the other major prizes were: Ron Rance, Baby champion, size 2 Kohaku; Vi and Tony Hussey, Young Champion, size 4 Sanke; Reay and Dee Squires, Adult Champion, size 5 Kohaku; John Burns, Mature Champion, size 6 Kohaku.

The show was well supported with 40 show vats and as many dealers and exhibitors. In addition, excellent weather ensured a good turn out of visitors both national and international. For the sixth year running the show was held at Swanley in Kent and this was the Section's 19th Annual Show.

Peter has done it yet again. The string of Golds continues to flow and its all down to the consistently high quality of trees, the attention to detail and design flair which typifies Herons. No other bonsai nursery has ever achieved this distinction. Koi Oriental have a gallery of Bonsai from the Show.
